It takes a strong, spiritually plugged-in man to serve as the head of his family. What a great responsibility he has, to counsel his wife and family and lead them in the way of the Lord. And it takes an equally strong woman to resist her temptation to control her Christian husband and trust his guidance. I wrote about Christian marriage on my blog, specifically how Adam and Eve serve as a model for man/woman's failure to live the roles prescribed by God. Their relationship builds a case for Ephesians 5:22-33 and is essential for understanding it. Without this level of maturity in your relationship we tend to work out of a selfish love where you are focused on yourself with the attitude "what can you do for me". Once you've achieved a mature love, it's about the other person and not yourself. It's become a contractual arrangement that people enter into in order to further their own agendas, rather than to uplift & encourage, to support each other's dreams and goals. Until people are willing to add rationality as another "leg of the stool" in relationships, then marriage in its present form is at best irrelevant, and at worst, doomed.
